County health officials have posted warning signs at Rancho Penasquitos Creek after determining that a week-old sewage spill has contaminated the creek.
Signs were posted Thursday after the San Diego city officials informed county officials that the sewage may have reached the stream, said Gary Stephany, the county’s director of environmental health services.
The signs are expected to remain up through this weekend.
About 6,000 gallons of sewage spilled into a canyon and the nearby creek where it intersects with Interstate 15 in the Rancho Penasquitos area after a sewer line blocked with grease caused a manhole on the 12000 block of Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard to overflow.
The spill occurred about 3 p.m. last Saturday and was stopped about 11 a.m. the next day, Stephany said.
