General Named Clerk of U.S. Supreme Court

WASHINGTON —
Maj. Gen. William K. Suter, the Army’s assistant judge advocate general, was named Friday as the new clerk of the Supreme Court.
Suter, 53, a career Army attorney who is retiring from a job he has held since 1985, will take over his new duties with the court Feb. 1.
He succeeds Joseph F. Spaniol Jr., who is retiring after five years as clerk.
Suter will supervise a staff of 35 in the court’s nerve center. All documents submitted to the court go through the clerk’s office.
