COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titan Wrestlers Start Fast, Win Easily
Cal State Fullerton won the first eight matches to rout San Francisco State, 36-9, in nonconference wrestling Friday at San Francisco State.
Mike Grubbs and Jeff Maes each won by pins for the Titans (9-5). San Francisco State is to 4-13.
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. women’s basketball:
UC Riverside 87, Chapman 78--Trina Hypolite scored 21 points and Becky Geeson added 18 points and 16 rebounds for host Riverside (9-10, 1-1).
Jennifer Ballenger scored 21 and Marvette Williams added 20 for Chapman (8-11, 0-3), and Jackie Saunders had 16 points and 16 rebounds.
Riverside led at the half, 45-33.
In a Pacific 10 men’s gymnastic meet:
UCLA 273.3, Cal State Fullerton 261.8--Greg Baldridge won the high-bar competition and Roger Duarte and Diego Lopez tied for second for host Cal State Fullerton (0-8, 0-1). UCLA (2-0, 2-0) won all the other individual events, including two each by Chainey Umphrey (pommel horse and rings) and Scott Keswick (floor and parallel bars).
