Colors Flying in Support of Troops

American flags are flying on all major streets in El Monte, and at City Hall the stone eagle crowning the building’s facade wears a red, white and blue wreath donated by the Recreation Department.

Meanwhile, strips of yellow police tape on city buildings in Arcadia, miniature U.S. flags tied to police cars in Monrovia and yellow ribbons and flags on light poles in Sierra Madre are other expressions of support in the San Gabriel Valley for U.S. troops in the Persian Gulf.

At Los Altos High School in Hacienda Heights, every Wednesday is designated as a “bring our troops home day” and students are being asked to wear yellow. Yellow ribbons were distributed to students and placed around the campus last week.

In Pasadena, the Board of Directors is considering whether to dedicate this year’s Fourth of July celebrations to American soldiers in the Middle East.

Duarte will make up the difference between regular salaries and military pay for up to six months for city employees in the reserves if they are called to active duty. Federal law requires only a 30-day differential.
