P.M. BRIEFING : Fujitsu, McDonnell Plan Trade

Fujitsu Ltd., Japan’s largest computer maker, agreed today to exchange technology with McDonnell Douglas Corp. and distribute in Japan computer software produced by the U.S. aircraft maker, officials said.

Under the agreement, Fujitsu is to acquire technology involving three-dimensional, mechanical, computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing software from McDonnell Douglas Information Systems International, a computer subsidiary of McDonnell Douglas, Naoyuki Akikusa, Fujitsu’s vice general manager, told a news conference.

Fujitsu also will distribute the software, known as Unigraphics, in Japan, said Kiyoshi Saito, a Fujitsu spokesman.

In return, McDonnell Douglas is to distribute Fujitsu’s two-dimensional software outside Japan, while obtaining Fujitsu technology and use of its distribution system in Japan.
