Dealing With Street Gangs

Share

As I read Father Boyle’s column, I gained a continued hope for the criminal justice system in Los Angeles County.

As stated by Father Boyle, the root social causes of gang crime are not addressed by our police leaders, Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl Gates and Los Angeles County Sheriff Sherman Block.

The answers to our crime problems summarized by Father Boyle, although not addressed by those paid by us for the answers, are continually rehearsed by our criminal justice educators and scholars at our local colleges and universities, and have been for the last decade.

Maybe we are turning to the wrong people for the answers. Or, just maybe, our criminal justice leaders are not as qualified as other, more innovative police leaders such as the former Minneapolis Police Chief Anthony Bouza and New York Police Commissioner Lee P. Brown.

Is it time for a change?
