Southwest Airlines: The Dallas-based carrier lost $4.6 million in the fourth quarter, contrasted with a profit of $8.1 million in the same period a year earlier. Revenue jumped 18% to $301.6 million. For the year, earnings were down 34.2% to $47.1 million, although revenue spurted 16.9% to $1.19 billion. Southwest said a 63% surge in the cost of jet fuel led to the fourth-quarter loss.
