In an apparent policy shift for the nonaligned nation, India has allowed U.S. military transport planes deployed to the Persian Gulf to stop in Bombay for refueling, officials in New Delhi said. Opposition groups condemned the move, saying it was contrary to India’s policy of denying overflights to military aircraft carrying war supplies. A Foreign Ministry spokesman said the planes were allowed to land because of friendly relations with the United States and because they carried non-lethal supplies.
