Israeli Forces and Arab Guerrillas Exchange Fire in South Lebanon
Israeli gunners shelled villages in the Syrian-policed Bekaa Valley today and Soviet-made Katyusha rockets landed in Israel’s self-proclaimed security zone in south Lebanon for the second time in 24 hours, officials said.
Police reported no casualties, but several houses were damaged in the attacks.
The Israeli howitzer barrage started shortly after midnight and targeted the villages of Ein Ata and Abu Kamha on the northern edge of Israel’s security zone, a police spokesman said.
As the barrage was under way, Arab guerrillas fired three Soviet-made Katyusha rockets at the security zone near the Christian town of Marjayoun, the police spokesman said.
Security sources in south Lebanon said one of the projectiles exploded near an outpost manned by the Israeli-financed militiamen of the South Lebanon Army.
