All That Jazz--in Oxnard

In 1961, Preservation Hall opened in New Orleans to give audiences a chance to rediscover the vitality and charm of an American art form--traditional New Orleans jazz.

Since then, the venue and its Preservation Hall bands--whose members are the city’s finest traditional jazz musicians--have gained worldwide recognition with sold-out concert tours and numerous television performances.

If you’ve been wanting to experience the high-spirited work of these musicians, there’s no need to travel to Louisiana. At the Oxnard Civic Auditorium on Feb. 7, you’ll have the opportunity as the seven-piece Preservation Hall Band performs.

The band is one of three that tours extensively and plays at Preservation Hall under that name. Most of its members have been active in the New Orleans music scene since the late 1920s.

The band begins playing at 8 p.m. and will feature rag tunes, Scott Joplin pieces and more.

The auditorium is at 800 Hobson Way. Tickets are $14.50.
