Division Over War With Iraq

Share

Almost everyone knew it and now Saddam has confirmed in an interview with CNN correspondent Peter Arnett: The anti-war protests are encouraging Iraq’s leader. Although some would call the action of many demonstrators treasonous or, at the very least, un-American, I feel that a better term to describe it might be cliche .

Without question, there is in this country a liberal element that laments this outbreak of war because it fails to address the important social issues that dominate their lives and careers. On the other hand, the war does provide an opportunity for these great social thinkers to further and more strongly attack the Bush Administration, and thereby bring attention to themselves and their positions. Add to these political opportunists a mixture of youth and throw in a smattering of the perpetually discontented, and you have the classic Vietnam-style anti-war protest. To complete its objective, however, the current protest movement must now find a movie actress to travel to Baghdad to broadcast anti-American slogans, publicly taunt American POWs and help disseminate vituperative propaganda.
