Pitchers Agree to Terms With Angels

Angel pitchers Bryan Harvey and Scott Bailes agreed to terms on one-year contracts Friday, averting arbitration. Harvey’s deal is for $1.04 million plus incentives; Bailes will earn $425,000.

Harvey, who led the Angels in saves last season with 25, is the club’s all-time save leader. He earned $332,500 last season and had filed for arbitration at $1.225 million. The Angels had filed at $850,000.

Bailes was 2-0 with a 6.37 earned-run average last season. He earned $400,000 last season and had filed at $500,000. The Angels had filed at $390,000.

Six Angels are still scheduled for hearings: Chuck Finley, Dave Gallagher, Jack Howell, Wally Joyner, Kirk McCaskill and Luis Polonia.

The Dodgers agreed to terms with second baseman Juan Samuel on a one-year contract for $1.575 million, avoiding arbitration.

Samuel batted .242 with 13 home runs and 52 RBIs last season. During the final month, he batted .376 with five homers and 18 RBIs. His 38 stolen bases ranked ninth in the National League.
