Photos and the News

A photograph of artist Tim Miller, crucified to the silhouette of a jet, was on the front page of the Jan. 17 Calendar section. Just below the photo, the bold caption read “Raw Sushi.”

Normally, I would ignore these types of photos and consider them a part of the unique texture of America. I was offended, however, due to the poor timing of this photo.

The war in the gulf and the report of fliers believed killed in the conflict, earlier in the day, just made this photo inappropriate.

My feelings aren’t so important, but the families and friends of those fliers lost at war should have been considered.
