IRVINE : Security Guard Hurt in Clash With 2 Men

Share

A security guard suffered cuts and a gunshot wound to the arm in a confrontation with two male assailants early Sunday, but her wounds were not thought to be life threatening, police said.

The guard, whose name was not released, apparently confronted the two men near the entrance to CMS Enhancements, a computer components company at 2722 Michelson Drive in Irvine. The commercial area is usually quiet at night, and police said the guard was overseeing the building from a guard shack on the property.

The two men might have been approaching the building to burglarize it, but police say they are not sure.

“We don’t know what the motive was,” Irvine Sgt. Tim Smith said. “As far as we know, we don’t have anything missing.”

Police said the guard and men scuffled just after midnight, and a caller reported hearing at least one gunshot around 12:30 a.m.

Officers found that the guard had suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and several head lacerations, a Police Department press release said.

The security guard was hospitalized.
