Short Takes : Rock’s Profanity Upsets Rector

MILWAUKEE — The rector at St. John Cathedral isn’t laughing about the performance given by “Saturday Night Live” comedian Chris Rock during Milwaukee’s Winterfest.
The Rev. James J. Brady said Monday that church officials had been promised clean-cut entertainment when they rented an auditorium and cafeteria run by the cathedral for use as a cabaret and comedy club during the festival, which ends this weekend.
Rock, who joined “Saturday Night Live” in September, opened his act Jan. 25 by saying he had been told to be “real clean” and then used a profanity to ask what was going on, according to Bob Babisch, Winterfest entertainment director.
“I am furious at our property being used in a way that is not in keeping with our value system,” Brady said.
