World IN BRIEF : PHILIPPINES : Figures in ’89 Coup Attempt Arrested

Two former army officers accused of seeking to topple President Corazon Aquino were arrested in Manila. Maj. Abraham Purugganan and Lt. Col. Victor Batac were seized in suburban Makati, police said. The two were among the best-known leaders of the 1989 coup attempt that nearly toppled the Aquino government and killed more than 100 people. Those still at large include former Lt. Col. Gregorio Honasan and Brig. Gen. Domingo Calajate.
