Golden Hill to Discuss How to Spend Arts Money

Share

Golden Hill residents are invited to tell San Diego city officials Tuesday how their community’s share of public arts money should be spent.

Golden Hill is one of 10 communities selected to participate in the city’s master plan for public art, spokeswoman Gail Goldman said. The others are City Heights, Emerald Hills, Mission Hills (which has already met with city officials), Linda Vista, Mission Trails Regional Park, North City West, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach and San Ysidro.

Meetings for the other areas haven’t been scheduled yet, but will be held in the coming months.

Under the plan, each community will receive money to commission a public art project, said Goldman, public art coordinator for the city’s Commission for Art and Culture. The projects are funded by the city, the California Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The purpose of the town meeting in Golden Hill is to share ideas for enhancing public areas with art. Residents of the community will also be asked to form a committee, including artists and designers, to identify sites and select from artists’ proposals.

The meeting will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Golden Hill Recreation Center, 2600 Golf Course Drive. Call Goldman at 533-3050 for information.
