Polaroid, Kodak to Appeal Suit Damages: The two firms indicated that they will appeal a landmark damages award in which Kodak was found liable for infringing on Polaroid’s patent for instant photography. Last month, U.S. District Judge A. David Mazzone decided to trim the award against Kodak by $36 million because of errors in calculating the original judgment. The resulting $873-million award was still believed to be the largest in history. Polaroid, based in Cambridge, Mass., had sought $12 billion. Kodak, based in Rochester, N.Y., contended that it should pay only $177 million.
