Anne F. Johnson, one of the first teachers at E. J. Toll Junior High School in Glendale, has died at a Glendale hospital. She was 100.

A longtime Glendale resident, Miss Johnson died Thursday of complications of old age, said Sylvia Arevalo, a longtime friend.

Born in Wandsworth, England, Miss Johnson came to the United States as an infant and was raised in New Jersey.

In 1921, she moved to California, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in math and a master’s degree in education at USC. She started teaching at E. J. Toll Junior High when it opened in 1927 and retired after 30 years. Miss Johnson was a longtime member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Glendale.

She is survived by a brother, James L. Johnson of Boca Raton, Fla.

A funeral, with burial to follow, is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Little Church of the Flowers at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1712 S. Glendale Ave., Glendale. Forest Lawn Mortuary in Glendale is handling the arrangements.
