VENTURA : Stories of Lost Gold to Highlight Tour

Share

Tales of lost gold, including $75,000 in $20 gold pieces that bandits allegedly took in 1855, will be told during a Saturday walking tour of the Olivas Adobe in Ventura.

“We’ll see where the stairs were, where the window is that they climbed in, where the gold was hidden before the robbers took it,” tour leader Richard Senate said. Stories flourish about where the gold was buried. Three-Finger Jack, one of the bandits, is said to have stashed his loot around Matilija. Another man reputedly gave directions to the gold from his deathbed in San Quentin Prison, naming a site on what is now Taylor Ranch.

The free one-hour tour will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Olivas Adobe, 4200 Olivas Park Drive. The tour will be repeated Feb. 23.
