OUT WEST, SOMEWHERE: The federal agency running failed banks misplaced the Far West. . . . The government’s Resolution Trust Corp. said Wednesday it mistakenly identified Far West Federal Bank of Portland, Ore., as a failed thrift holding scads of junk bonds. RTC said its Tuesday press release meant to specify FarWest Savings of Newport Beach. It said the Oregon bank is not being run by the federal government and isn’t tied to the Newport Beach failure.
