Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Wilder Hints at Run With Cuomo
Two governors considered potential Democratic presidential nominees insisted that the other was the front-runner, although Virginia Gov. L. Douglas Wilder hinted he could be happy on a ticket headed by New York Gov. Mario M. Cuomo. In remarks to the New York State Assn. of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators in Albany, Wilder said history suggested a pattern of Virginia presidents and New York vice presidents. “Some have suggested that perhaps it’s time to return the favor,” he said. Cuomo acknowledged Wilder’s national prominence, saying: “All across this country they are mentioning Douglas Wilder as a potential candidate (for President) and I wish him well.”
