Santa Monica : Parking Rules Modified

Share

The City Council on Tuesday made a series of changes to its parking laws, including increasing rates for meters in city parking structures and at lots off Wilshire Boulevard.

The changes were made to make the city’s parking policies “more uniform and equitable,” according to city staff. Also included in the modifications will be a citywide rule that street meters will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The staff is reconsidering having Main Street meters operate Sundays. City Council members were concerned that a proposal to charge people to park on Main Street on Sundays may be unfair because Sunday parking is free in the rest of the city.

Meter rates for city parking structures were increased from 25 cents per hour to 50 cents. Rates along Wilshire Boulevard lots were increased from 35 cents per hour to 50 cents. Meters along Main Street and near Palisades Park will be reduced from 75 cents per hour to 50 cents.
