Mortgage Rates Rise Slightly: Fixed-rate mortgages averaged 9.29% this week, up slightly from 9.25% last week, according to a national survey released by the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. It was the first increase since mid-January. On one-year adjustable-rate mortgages, lenders were asking an average initial rate of 7.57%, down from 7.59% last week and the lowest since a 7.56% rate during the week ending May 18, 1988. The rates do not include add-on fees known as points.
