WAR IN BRIEF : CANADA : CF-18 Jet Aircraft to Get Array of Bombs

Canada will begin fitting its CF-18 jet aircraft with 500-pound general-purpose bombs and heavier cluster bombs immediately and begin attacking targets in Iraq and Kuwait within the next two weeks if the war continues that long, Defense Minister William McKnight said. The announcement marks the latest escalation in Canada’s growing role in the war. Canada has about 2,200 sailors and fliers in the Gulf, but until now, the aviators have flown only escort missions alongside American bombers.
