Coroner Identifies Plane Crash Victims
The coroner’s office released the names Sunday of two North County men who were killed when their single-engine aircraft crashed in the rural Elfin Forest area near Carlsbad.
Jesse Jasper, a 53-year-old flight instructor from Oceanside, and Master Gunnery Sgt. Michael J. Smith, a 45-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine, left Palomar Airport Friday night, according to Everett Mauger, a medical examiner investigator.
When they didn’t return as planned, friends reported their absence.
