Three boys have been arrested in connection with a fire over the weekend that caused $93,000 damage to San Joaquin Elementary School, an Orange County Fire Department spokeswoman said Monday.

Two of the boys are 11 and one is 10, spokeswoman Kathleen Cha said. Their names were not released because of their ages.

The boys were arrested Saturday night, a few hours after a fire broke out at the school at 22182 Barbera, Cha said. She added that the boys were released to their parents.

The fire started about 5:15 p.m. The three boys, and possibly a few others, had somehow gotten inside the school, Cha said.

“They were using and misusing matches,” Cha said.

In addition, she said, some windows in a classroom were broken.

One of the boys attends the elementary school and the other two were formerly students there, Cha said.

The fire gutted one kindergarten classroom and badly damaged another kindergarten room, Cha said. The fire was discovered by a teacher who was in another part of the school and saw the smoke. The blaze was extinguished by firefighters in 12 minutes, and no one was injured, she said.
