Dawn Livingston has been appointed assistant director of the Norris Theatre. Prior to her appointment, Livingston served as communications officer for the Public Corporation for the Arts in Long Beach, and as a free-lance reporter and host for radio and television for the Long Beach Business Journal. She is a graduate of Cal State Long Beach and studied theater in London with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The Torrance Council of PTAs has announced the names of recipients of its Honorary Service Awards and Continuing Service Awards for outstanding service to children and youth in the Torrance Community.

Joe O’Brien received an Honorary Service Award. Continuing Service Awards went to Torrance Mayor Katy Geissert, Frank Scotto and Cindy Scotto. A donation has been made to the California State PTA scholarship program in honor of each recipient. Funds contributed to this program are used for low-interest loans and scholarships for educating young people beyond high school and to assist in the professional education of teachers and others who work with youth.

This year an Honorary National Life Membership, the highest honor a PTA can bestow, was presented to Ann Gallagher, a Torrance Unified School District board member.

Also announced by the National PTA are the names of Torrance students who are winners in the National PTA Reflections Program, which was developed to encourage creativity in the arts. Students from 23 Torrance schools participated in the areas of literature, music, photography, and visual arts. The theme was “If I Had a Wish.” The winning students, their categories, grades and schools:

Literature: K-3, Devin Darling, Riviera; 4-6, Steve Sam DeLuca, Walteria; 7-9, Jennifer Whang, Madrona; 10-12, Jessica E. Quinn, Torrance High.

Music: K-3, Nancy Iida, Edison; 4-6, Faye Teng, Walteria; 7-9, Annie Pan, Calle Mayor; 10-12, Trina Lisa Lee, North High.

Photography: K-3, Marc Matoba, Howard Wood; 4-6 Brian Yang, Arnold; 7-9, Katie Kenderski, Calle Mayor; 10-12, Todd Munesue, West High.
