Gangs Trade Gunfire at Mini-Mall; 2 Hurt

Share

Rival gangs traded gunfire in a parking lot at a Pomona mini-mall, critically wounding two gang members as customers scattered for safety, authorities said.

The chance meeting between the two gangs began with an angry exchange of words but quickly escalated to an exchange of about 15 rounds of gunfire, Pomona Police Sgt. Larry Zambrano said.

One bullet went through the wall of a real estate office, narrowly missing an employee.

Zambrano said Louis Perez, 22, and Alex Garcia, 21, both of Pomona, were taken by friends from the parking lot in the 2200 block of South Garey Avenue to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, where they were in critical condition.
