From Times Staff and Wire Reports

California Highway Patrol officials are recommending that manslaughter charges be filed against a truck driver involved in a 74-car pileup last month on a fog-shrouded highway south of Fresno. Officer Laurie Johnson said Barry Corbins, 32, of Ontario was driving a tractor-trailer rig at an unsafe speed when it collided with a sedan, killing two passengers. Four people were killed and 30 were injured in a series of accidents Feb. 7 on northbound California 99. Johnson said Corbins’ rig struck the sedan, pushing it 195 feet before coming to a stop. Killed in that wreck were Selma residents Raymond Azad Janian, 71, and his daughter-in-law, Maria Elena Janian, 33.
