Let’s Get On With Desalination Plants

Share

It seems like every time I pick up a paper I find that at least one, and usually more, of our county supervisors is sitting on another committee. No wonder Orange County is constantly faced with emergency, catastrophe, cost overruns, shortages, messes, etc. No one is minding the store.

I read a recent article in The Times giving us an update on water and/or the lack thereof and the formation of another committee, including, of course, at least one of our supervisors.

I can see the writing on the wall. We will immediately raise the salaries of the water department, then levy a special tax to fund another oversight committee and set aside several million dollars for a study to be set before the voters not later than 10 years from now to provide X number of millions for some boondoggle.

Heaven forbid that we start desalinating right here and now. Certainly the process is not new nor experimental. In addition to what we read as to such plants currently in existence as far away as Saudi Arabia, it was most recently noted in our neighborhood that one of our boat enthusiasts installed a small gadget in his boat that would provide him with fresh water all during his trip to the South Seas.

Let’s get on with what we should have done at least five years ago.
