California IN BRIEF : SAN LEANDRO : 4 Youths Charged in Fight With Police

Four teen-agers arrested after an October melee with police have been charged with attacking police officers, but the Alameda County district attorney’s office said no charges would be filed against a fifth teen-ager. The charges were filed Thursday, and the four could be sentenced to up to 16 months in a locked youth facility. Three were charged with battery on a police officer, the fourth with assault. In response to parents’ charges, San Leandro Mayor Dave Karp said Friday that investigations found that police did not use excessive force or violate anyone’s civil rights.
