Kyle Petty’s mastery of North Carolina Motor Speedway continued Sunday with a victory in the Goodwrench 500 NASCAR race at Rockingham, N.C.

Petty dominated the first two-thirds of the 492-lap race, but it took a caution flag 15 laps from the end to help him overcome a challenge from Ken Schrader.

Schrader led by as much as 20 seconds in the late going, but a spinout by Harry Gant on lap 478 brought out the seventh yellow flag of the race and gave Petty an opportunity to take his fourth career victory and second in a row in this event.

Petty roared past Schrader 11 laps from the end and stayed out front the rest of the way, crossing the finish line 1.09 seconds in front.

Jaguar driver Davy Jones took the lead from pole-sitter Tommy Kendall on the first lap and won the Camel GT series Grand Prix at West Palm Beach, Fla.
