BUENA PARK : Water-Management Plan Is Updated

Share

The City Council on Monday night approved an updated voluntary water-management plan which outlines conservation steps for consumers.

The plan does not mandate immediate water-use cuts, but instead offers suggestions on what measures to take if the drought worsens, said Loren Tuthill, the city’s engineering design manager.

Officials have previously reported that the city has a rich ground-water supply which can provide up to 100% of the city’s water, if necessary. However, Tuthill said some type of conservation effort could be suggested to the council for adoption as soon as May.

Broken down into specific levels, the plan gives suggestions on how much water can be conserved if certain measures are taken. Suggestions include restricting hours during which residents can water lawns or wash cars. It also outlines some of the steps taken in the past by the city to reduce water use.

The 70-page document is mandatory under state law and must be updated every five years.
