FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Reward Offered for Graffiti Violators

Share

The City Council last week passed a graffiti-removal ordinance offering a $500 reward for information leading to the conviction of anyone caught painting graffiti.

The new ordinance also will use city funds to remove graffiti from private property, with the consent of the owner. The city previously removed graffiti only from city-owned structures and public school grounds.

The money to pay the rewards will come from fines paid by convicted offenders or, if they are unable to pay, from the city’s Drug Asset Seizure Fund. The parents or guardian of a convicted minor can be held responsible for paying the reward.

The application of graffiti is a misdemeanor and carries a six-month jail sentence and fines up to $1,000.
