TENNIS ROUNDUP : Woodforde Upsets Second-Seeded Chesnokov in 3 Sets

Mark Woodforde of Australia upset second-seeded Andrei Chesnokov of the Soviet Union, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7-2), Wednesday in the second round at the Copenhagen Open.

Woodforde, ranked 91st in the world, will meet Anders Jarryd of Sweden, a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Jan Gunnarson, also of Sweden, in the quarterfinals.

In other matches, top-seeded Jonas Svensson of Sweden struggled past Frederik Fetterlein of Denmark, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, seventh-seeded Christian Bergstrom of Sweden rallied to beat Carl Uwe Steeb of Germany, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, third-seeded Jakob Hlasek of Switzerland defeated Lars Jonsson of Sweden, 6-3, 6-4, fourth-seeded Karel Novacek of Czechoslovakia beat Jose Altur of Spain, 6-3, 6-2, sixth-seeded Todd Woodbridge of Australia downed Thomas Hogstedt of Sweden, 6-3, 6-0, and Christian Saceanu of Germany upset fifth-seeded Ronald Agenor of Haiti, 6-3, 7-6. .
