Shot Fired Into Crowd Strikes Man in the Head
A man was wounded in the head by a gunshot fired into a crowd of people standing in a parking lot at a housing project east of downtown.
Someone apparently armed with a rifle fired a shot between two buildings at the Pico Aliso housing project in the 100 block of South Via Nicola about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, said Police Detective Bruce Spradling.
The man was in serious condition at County-USC Medical Center, the detective said. Police suspect the shooting was gang-related, but it was unknown whether the victim has gang ties.
