The car involved in a hit-and-run accident that killed a 9-year-old La Mesa girl and left her 8-year-old brother injured was found Thursday morning by police, officials said.

The white Chevrolet Impala was discovered near the 3200 block of Marlborough Avenue and impounded, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

Police would not release the name of the car’s registered owner, saying they did not know whether that person was driving the car at the time of the accident.

The accident occurred about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday near 36th Street and Oceanview Boulevard.

Police said that, although the car had the right of way, the driver is being sought on felony hit-and-run charges for leaving the scene. The driver and two passengers in the car are still at large.

Killed was Erica Megan Davis, who was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where she died shortly afterward, the county medical examiner’s office said.

Her brother Edward was taken to Children’s Hospital with a broken leg. He was in fair condition Thursday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.
