Conrad on Gulf War

I turned to your Editorial Page (March 3) with added interest. With almost all Americans rejoicing over the swift coalition victory in the Gulf and applauding the brilliant leadership of George Bush and his military commanders, I wondered if perhaps Times editorial writers and hopefully even Conrad might somehow bring themselves to join in the exultation.

But no, the same old Conrad philosophy--America is hopelessly immersed in unsolved problems and its citizens are in dire straits (“Meanwhile, back on the home front . . . “). And the editorial thrust was little better (“Can Military Success Help Spur a Recovery?”).

High among the big losers in this event are the Democrats and the liberal media.
