Legal Fees

The Los Angeles County Bar Assn. deplores the charging of unconscionable fees by any lawyer under any circumstances. Lawyers providing services for individuals seeking permanent resident status in the United States through the State Department lottery are no exception (editorial, “Bingo Barristers,” March 6).

To help ensure that the individuals hoping to take part in the lottery can afford legal assistance, the County Bar’s Immigration Legal Assistance Project offers help in filling out the necessary forms for only $15. The project, which provides a full range of legal services to the immigrant community, is located in the Federal Building in downtown Los Angeles.

Further, the County Bar also offers a service to resolve disputes between clients and their attorneys, including situations in which the client believes he has been charged too much by his attorney.
