Nation IN BRIEF : VIRGINIA : Bush Proves Identity to Skeptical Child
President Bush had to prove his identity to an 8-year-old. The President had gone to Barcroft Elementary School in Arlington, Va., to honor the Marines who tutor pupils there. After Bush had read aloud to Anthony Henderson in the school library, the boy asked: “Are you really the President?” Bush replied: “Yeah. Yeah. Didn’t you know that? What did you think I was--a pretending guy? Well, heck, how can I prove that to you?” The President pulled out his wallet and showed his driver’s license. “So you are the President,” Anthony said. But Bush had more proof. “How about, do you accept American Express cards?” he said, brandishing his credit card.
