Ballet Money Woes: The Pennsylvania Ballet is the latest dance company to be hit by financial woes. The troupe’s trustees announced that the company will have to suspend operations immediately because of insufficient funds. The money crisis was attributed to reductions in government funding and recession-related cuts in private and corporate donations. Artistic director Christopher d’Amboise’s reaction: “We can’t and won’t allow ballet to die in Philadelphia.” He said the company needs $1 million to continue.
