Drug Bust Allegedly Involves O.C. Man
Federal agents announced Tuesday the breakup of a California-to-Australia cocaine ring, allegedly involving an Orange County man and the son of a prominent Australian racehorse trainer.
U.S. Customs and drug-enforcement officials said Australian federal police arrested Neale Begg, son of trainer Nevel Begg, in Sydney, Australia, on Monday after he allegedly picked up 1,085 grams of cocaine sent with two couriers from California through Honolulu.
Agents discovered the drugs on the couriers, identified as Lynn McGovern and Linda Lou Klos, during an aircraft stopover in Honolulu, and the two agreed to cooperate with law officials, the Customs Service said.
U.S. officials said an Orange County man identified as John Swann allegedly purchased the drugs for $24,000 from a “Mr. Mondo” in Mexico and sold them to Begg for $60,000.
