Japan’s Trade Surplus Soars: It jumped 400% between January and February and was 2.5% higher than in February of 1990, the Finance Ministry reported. Japan exported $5.09 billionmore in goods than it imported in February, the ministry added. The country’s February trade surplus with the United States shrank 2.8% from a year earlier to $2.87 billion. January istraditionally a slow month for trade in Japan because of a long New Year’s holiday and other seasonal factors.
