University Given Computer Software

The Seattle Silicon Corp. has donated a site license for silicon computer software to the department of computer engineering and computer science at Cal State Long Beach.

The license, worth an estimated $130,000, will make it possible for undergraduate and graduate-level students at Cal State Long Beach to design state-of-the-art integrated circuits.

This first-ever gift from Seattle Silicon Corp. provides one year’s use of software for 10 computer work stations that will give computer engineering students a tool to create their own microchips.

The software will guide the students in designing the chips’ functions. After sending the designs to a special program offered by the Mosis Library in the National Science Foundation, the students will receive an actual chip built from their designs.
