Horse Racing
A jockey was found guilty of attempted theft for hiding under cover of dense fog until he could rejoin a horse race and win. Jockey Sylvester Carmouche Jr., 31, was sentenced to 30 days in jail and was fined $250 plus court costs in state District Court in Lake Charles, La. The judge suspended 20 days of the jail sentence.
Carmouche’s attorney said they would appeal the sentence as excessive.
Carmouche was aboard Landing Officer, a 23-1 shot, which appeared to win the 11th race at Delta Downs on Jan., 11, 1990.
