The district attorney’s office declared Monday that a San Diego police officer was justified in shooting a man in the arm after the man reportedly fired gunshots in the officer’s direction.
Police Detective Daniel Stanley was absolved of criminal negligence for shooting Noland Reese on Dec. 7 while Stanley and other officers were looking for a robbery suspect.
During the surveillance, Reese ran down the street and fired a round at Stanley after the officer identified himself, the district attorney’s office said.
Stanley fired three shots and caught Reese, a parolee, in the right arm. Deputy Dist. Atty. Michael R. Pent ruled that Stanley was justified in using deadly force “to prevent death or great bodily injury.”
