Council OKs Funds for ‘Drug Free Zone’ Signs

Share

The San Diego City Council agreed Monday to spend $46,460 to post “Drug Free Zone” signs at 230 city schools.

The signs refer to 1988 state legislation mandating added prison time for anyone convicted of distributing or manufacturing drugs within 1,000 feet of a school.

Under the state law, a prison term of three to five years can be added to any sentence imposed by the courts if an individual is convicted of selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school.
