BUENA PARK : Emergency Repairs to Be Made to Wells
Emergency repairs will be made to three damaged city wells to keep up with expected increases in water demand because of the drought.
Forgoing the normal bidding procedures, the City Council this week approved an emergency $27,956 contract with McCalla Brothers of Santa Ana for the project.
“It should be done by early May or June . . . in time to meet the demands of summer,” City Engineer Don Jensen said.
The pumping systems in the three wells will be checked for cracks and other deficiencies. The city’s five other wells will be operational during the repairs, so it will not affect current water supply, officials said.
The City Council’s action follows a similar move last year to repair the Knott Avenue well.
City officials are trying to avoid another shutdown, said Loren Tuthill of the engineering department.
