Woman, 18, Killed in Shooting Accident
An Eagle Rock woman was killed when a bullet accidentally fired by her uncle passed through a wall and struck her in the head, Los Angeles police reported.
Claudia Serna, 18, was shot Friday while working in the kitchen of the Neola Street home that she shared with her aunt and uncle, Detective Ron Whitt said.
Whitt said Serna’s uncle, Oliver Whitelord, 35, told police that the gun he was cleaning suddenly went off in the living room just after 3 p.m.
Whitt said Serna was dead when paramedics arrived. A police and coroner’s investigation determined that the shooting was accidental and that no charges would be filed against Whitelord.
